How we check our lawyers
No one can take your call until we have confirmed who they are, that they are regulated in the UK and that they are insured. We keep checking for as long as they are listed.
- Regulated as
- Solicitor

Before a lawyer appears
Four checks, in this order. A lawyer who fails any of them is not listed.
Check 1
On the official register
We find their name and number on the register of their regulator: the SRA, the Bar Standards Board or CILEx Regulation.
Check 2
Photo ID matches
We check their photo ID against the name on the register, so the person you see is the person who is regulated.
Check 3
Practising certificate in date
They must hold a current practising certificate. We keep a copy and note when it expires.
Check 4
Insured
They must have professional indemnity insurance in place for the advice they give.
Only then can they set their prices and go online to take calls.
While they are listed
Checks don’t stop once a lawyer is approved.
Online only while in date
A lawyer can only switch to online while their practising certificate and insurance are both current.
Paused when documents expire
We remind them 30 days before a document runs out. If it expires, their account is paused automatically.
Every complaint reviewed
We read every complaint and can suspend a lawyer at any time while we look into it.
Check for yourself
Take the number from a lawyer’s profile and look them up on their regulator’s register. These are the official sites.
